Since Flight Of The Conchords called it quits on their television series via a message on their official website in December, diehard fans may have been wondering what the future held for their favourite “almost award-winning fourth-most-popular folk duo in New Zealand”.
On 10 December, a statement on the Flight Of The Conchords website read: “We’ve noticed the less we say about the future of the show, the more people want to talk about it, so in an effort to reverse this trend we are today announcing that we won’t be returning for a 3rd season. We’re very proud of the two seasons we made and we like the way the show ended. We’d like to thank everyone who helped make the show and also everyone who watched it. While the characters Bret and Jemaine will no longer be around, the real Bret and Jemaine will continue to exist.”
Fans in the UK need wonder no longer what’s next, as Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie have recently announced a Spring European Tour. Kicking off on the 3rd of May in Amsterdam, the tour will take the boys through the UK (including stops in Birmingham on the 10th of May and Manchester on the 11th and 12th of May) and finish off in Stockholm on the 24th.

It’s been a long, strange trip for the two Kiwis who make up Flight Of The Conchords. Bret and Jemaine met for the first time in 1996 and soon started writing songs together and performing at almost any place that would have them, including comedy festivals in Australia and New Zealand.
In 2002, they performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, a well-known launching ground for comedic talent. Then in 2003 and 2004 they returned to Edinburgh, gaining the attention of the BBC Light Entertainment Department who commissioned the duo to make a six-part radio series.
After a gig at the Aspen Comedy Festival in 2005, HBO invited them to film a half-hour performance for their stand-up comedy show, One Night Stand. This coup was parlayed into the popular television series, which lasted two seasons and exposed Jemaine and Bret to a whole new audience.
Flight Of The Conchords latest album, “I Told You I Was Freaky” was released late last year, making it to number 19 on the US Billboard chart and 47 on the UK Albums chart. Perhaps not surprisingly, the album went top 10 in their native New Zealand.
