Ashton Rush To Join Twitter But Should We Care? Tech

You know Twitter has made it into the mainstream when celebrities rush to join the micro-blogging service. But who is the most popular Twitterer of them all? The celebrities that rank highly are often more prolific writers than others, and have something interesting to say (although if you read Britney Spears’ entries, you find that this isn’t always the case.)

Ashton Kutcher
Ashton Kutcher -Aplusk – Twitter’s top tweeter — warned he may pull the plug on his tweeting if the micro-blogging service partners on a reality TV show. “It’s all fun and games until somebody gets stalked,” Kutcher wrote in a Twitter posting late Monday.

Variety magazine reported Monday that San Francisco-based Twitter.com had partnered with TV producers Reveille and Brillstein Entertainment on an unscripted show that would be “putting ordinary people on the trail of celebrities in a revolutionary competitive format.”

Kutcher used Twitter to post a link to a news report about the partnership along with this message: “Wow I hope this isn’t true. I really don’t like being sold out. May have to take a twitter hiatus.” His wife, actress Demi Moore, also threatened to shut down her Twitter account, which has more than 1 million followers.

“I hope this isn’t true — if it is, our Twitter time may come to a quick and sad end!” Moore tweeted Monday.

So this is the ‘Dream couple’ tweeting away on Twitter. Demi posted photos last week showing her smile — minus one front tooth. They were taken while she was undergoing dental surgery. She and Kutcher gained attention earlier this year when he posted a photo of his wife’s rear — minus pants. For all this glamour he has nearly 2 million followers, and follows 157 (He is truly the king of communication)

After Kushner has been on CNN challenging everybody to race for a million followers he claims that he may need to stop tweeting because..”Um how about … I don’t want to be stalked!!!”

How about you stop publishing pictures of yourself and your wife’s behind, that may deter potential stalkers. The teen girls that think you are hot are better off buying People Magazine.

The power of Twitter is about the millions of people using it and how easily it is to filter and aggregate their thoughts and conversations. It can’t be all about Ashton and Oprah. I know some Twitter early loyalists are feeling a bit ambivalent about this influx of mainstream attention, and are likening it to when their favorite rock band got big overnight. They’re excited to see this service really take off, but at the same time are concerned that it’s turning into a sort of novelty fad.
