Apple IPod Touch Game Reviews: Foodle
With the iTunes App Store being a few months over a year old now, it’s nice to see apps marking their first year anniversary. One that is commemorating its 1-year with a sale is the list manager Foodle.
Created by Anything Honest, Foodle sets out to be the best iPhone list manager out there. While it focuses primarily on grocery items, Foodle works well with any kind of list keeping you’re interested in. Our AppSmile team was impressed with the quick load time and simple interface of the app, but we want to focus on four aspects that really make Foodle stand out above other list tracking apps.
First, Foodle sports a tremendous database of predefined items. That means that as you create your first list and begin to enter items, a supplemental listing of possible items appears below. So, if you begin to type in “Lemo”, Foodle will suggest “Granulated lemon peel”, “Juice, lemonade”, “Lemon extract”, etc. List creation is sped up rather significantly due to this great feature.
Second, location services are available within Foodle. When you are in a store and you launch the app it will ask to use your current location. As you browse and find products and check them off your list, they will be remembered in the database. That means the next time you add that particular selection to a list, it will locate where you found it last time (it does not remember store name, only location). We really think this aspect is handy if you have multiple stores around you but can’t remember which one carries tomatillo salsa. Plus you can see which mapped locations carry the majority of your list items.
The third noteworthy aspect of Foodle is the emailing capability. Say you and your wife or significant other both have lists of items you want to get on your way home from work. Yet the other person is closer to a store having your items. Just email the list to your friend or mate (any Foodle user actually), and it will send the list with a link to open it in Foodle. Upon activation of that link, Foodle will launch and import the list in question.
The last characteristic we wanted to mention about Foodle is the shake to sort ability. As you make your way down your list, checking off items, just give your device a shake to rearrange the list. This moves checked items to the bottom of the list while moving outstanding ones to the top.
Yes, Foodle has certainly made good use of its first year in the App Store. The $0.99 anniversary sale ends tomorrow, so make sure you quickly add this 5-Dimple star to your list today. Or if you just want to check it out before checking out, a free version is available HERE.
